The artisan vermouth Caràcter was born of conversations between Carles from Àlquia and Andreu from Tres Cadires held during the postgraduate course in the production of distilled beverages and liquor at Ramon i Virgili University (URV). From there arose a project that brought Catalonia’s first organic vermouth to market in June 2021. And thanks to the collaboration with the ethnobotanist Airy, it is also the first artisan vermouth to express a regional landscape. Because Caràcter only contains native botanical ingredients representing the Ponent region. It therefore contains no citrus, for example. Instead, it contains a generous amount of Arbequina olives. And the wine is from the co-operative L’Olivera. The label is a work of art by Lídia Guim that perfectly reflects the DNA and essence of the Ponent region.

Caràcter is the scent of the Ponent vineyards, olive groves, thyme fields and scrublands; it is the taste of an unconventional, highly aromatic artisan vermouth. First comes the bitterness of the combination of three types of wormwood and the viscosity of the Arbequina olive. Next comes the sweetness of the hedgerow fruits (fig, pomegranate, strawberry tree fruit, rosehips…). A different sort of vermouth that has found its place on the market, especially among those who love bitter, aromatic, top-quality vermouth.

100% organically certified, the challenges in sourcing suppliers for some of the plants, like white wormwood, meant that we needed to harvest them directly from certified fields.

Caràcter Reserva, is aged for at least 12 months in oak casks, gaining in body and exotic nuances.
