It’s not ratafia. Is it better?

Our Vi de Nous, our artisan walnut wine, is our first product, the one that brought our co-operative and production facilities to life. It is a traditional liqueur from the Ponent region –our home–, but it was falling into obscurity. Andreu’s father used to make it at home every year following a recipe passed down from a village grandmother. To our pleasant surprise, she later told us that she had received the recipe from Andreu’s great-uncle. We contacted him and he sent us a letter explaining all his secrets and tips.

The ingredients we use for this artisan liqueur are sourced as locally as possible: the wine is from the Cooperativa de Maldà and the walnuts from Bellpuig and villages around Arbeca. To make this liqueur, we macerate green walnuts in red wine. We then add sugar and a neutral distilled spirit and let it rest. The final result is a reddish-brown liqueur with a surprising and pleasant taste, reminiscent of many beverages but of none in particular, with a 20% alcohol content.

Vi de Nous is a smooth artisan liqueur particularly recommended for enriching after-dinner conversations with friends and family.

Its origins, however, remain unknown. References to it can be found in different parts of Catalonia and around the Mediterranean, always as a traditional liqueur made from a recipe passed down through generations. Meanwhile, its ingredients suggest that it comes from a region with abundant vineyards and enough water to sustain walnut trees. Though it is still made in many Catalan households, it is fading into oblivion. We want to preserve this history and promote the production and consumption of local beverages.
